The Remote Worker’s Survival Guide to Surviving Yet Another ‘Can You Hear Me Now?’ Moment
To all of you remote work warriors and kitchen-table executives. We need to talk about the most soul-crushing phrase in the modern workplace.“Can you hear me now?”Good grief on a conference call. We’ve got satellites, fiber optics, and AI that can write your grocery list and your “Best Employee of the Month” acceptance speech — yet every three seconds someone freezes mid-sentence, the audio turns into a robot having a stroke, and the whole meeting stops for those five little words. It’s the digital equivalent of your grandpa yelling into a rotary phone. Except you’re yelling about Q3 projection
Except you’re yelling about Q3 projections while the neighbor’s leaf blower auditions for a heavy metal band.I am a high-tech warrior, just like you. Cutting-edge. State-of-the-art. I can give you a gigabyte in a nanosecond—and still can’t deliver a clear sentence without sounding like I’m calling from a submarine full of angry bees. We’ve built more computers to hold all of our data, can talk to anyone on the planet in seconds… and somehow we communicate less.So here’s the short, slightly fed-up survival guide.Rule #1: The Mute Button Is a WeaponDefault to muted. Always. Your dog doesn’t need to join the budget meeting. Your spouse’s dinner debate is not relevant to the sales pipeline. Mute first. We’ve all heard enough.Rule #2: Ditch the Built-In Laptop MicThat tiny hole next to your camera was designed by someone who hates joy. It picks up the fridge, the AC, and your quiet despair — but not your actual voice. Get a real headset. People will finally understand whether you said “revenue growth” or “I need a drink.”Rule #3: Test Before You Tank the MeetingFive minutes early is not the time to discover your camera is aimed at the ceiling fan. Do a quick test. Better yet, make sure your company actually supports you with decent tools instead of free junk.Rule #4: The “Can You Hear Me Now?” ProtocolWhen it happens (and it will):1. Stop talking immediately.2. Unmute.3. Say that cursed phrase once. Just once.4. Still broken? Turn off video. Bandwidth is finite.5. All else fails—drop to chat: “Having audio issues. Continuing here.”Rule #5: Half the Room Is Lying About Their Connection“Sorry, bad WiFi today” usually means: toilet / dog walk / Netflix / juice on the router. We’ve all done it. Just don’t make it your full-time excuse.Rule #6: Your Home Network Is Now Company InfrastructureThe ancient router, the smart fridge DDoS-ing the neighborhood, the home WiFi—all of it is now your problem and the company’s. A solid IT partner can lock it down so “can you hear me now” doesn’t turn into “can you hear the ransomware.”The Bottom LineHybrid and remote work was sold as freedom. What we got was the office invading every corner of home life while the tech keeps face-planting.Mute aggressively. Upgrade the junk. Test first. And if your company still treats remote tech like a temporary workaround, maybe it’s time they talked to people who actually know how to make the tech work.Because I don’t want to hear “Can you hear me now?” one more time.I want the meeting to end on time so I can go back to ignoring my email in peace. Solomon IT helps East Tennessee businesses turn hybrid and remote work from a daily comedy of errors into something that actually functions. Better networks, solid remote access, endpoints that don’t quit, and support that doesn’t leave you yelling into the void.Call us. We’ll hear you just fine.

Managed IT Services vs. Break-Fix IT Support: Which Is Better for Markham Businesses?
For many Markham businesses, IT support still follows a familiar pattern: something breaks, employees lose access, and someone calls for help. Once the problem is fixed, everyone moves on until the next issue appears. That approach can work for a very small business with simple technology needs. But as companies rely more heavily on Microsoft

How to Answer Cyber Insurance Renewal Questions Without Voiding Your Policy
If you have a cyber insurance renewal coming up, the application is probably longer than the one you filled in last time. It's also more specific. Each new question maps to a control that, if missing, allowed a major 2023 or 2024 claim to escalate. The wording reflects how carriers responded to losses they paid
